How Valentin Mobile Auto Supports Girls Under the Hood
Christian Valentin is a mechanic, an Army veteran, and a stay at home dad. He is also the founder and president of Girls Under the Hood, a nonprofit built to introduce girls ages 12 to 18 to the world of mechanics and the automotive trades. Why this nonprofit exists
Women make up roughly half the driving population and less than 3 percent of working automotive technicians. That gap is not about interest. It is about access. Girls Under the Hood exists to close that gap by giving young women hands on time with real tools, real vehicles, and real mentorship from working professionals in the trade.
Program participants learn:
- How an engine actually works
- How to safely lift and support a vehicle
- How to change oil, rotate tires, and inspect brakes
- How to read a wiring diagram and use a multimeter
- How to write a repair estimate and talk to a customer
The goal is not to turn every girl into a career mechanic. The goal is to make sure that if she wants that path, or any adjacent trade, she has already touched the tools and knows she belongs.
