7 Brake Warning Signs You Should Never Ignore
Brakes give you plenty of warning before they fail. The trick is knowing what to listen and feel for. 1. A high pitched squeal when you brake lightly
That sound is by design. Most brake pads have a small metal wear indicator that scrapes the rotor once the pad wears down to about 3 millimeters. It is your car politely telling you the pads have a few hundred miles of life left, not a few thousand.

2. A grinding or growling noise
Once the pad material is completely gone, the metal backing plate rides directly on the rotor. That grinding sound is metal cutting into metal, which grooves and warps the rotor.
